Welcome to P 3/4

Welcome back to another exciting school year! It’s hard to believe that summer is already over and another school year has begun. Come and join us on our learning adventure as we explore our topics and discover new things this year. Primary Three and Four are looking forward to sharing their classroom activities and photos so please come back and have another look at our class page.

We really enjoyed our school visit to Randalstown Library and want to thank Michael for all his help. We got the chance to look around the library and explore all the different types of books there are, Michael talked to us about how the books are sorted by age groups or genres such as non-fiction, fiction, fantasy and picture books. He even read us a story which we all loved! At the end of our visit we got to pick our very own books which we got to take home.  We all are looking forward to going back again soon.

We loved our animal topic so much everyone created something about animals! People in our class created posters, games and animal models, some even used the computer to present animal factfiles. Miss Small was so impressed with how creative we all were. We all got the chance to teach her new and interesting facts. Above is a selection of some of our animal projects!

This week in Shape and Space, we have been exploring what area means and trying to calculate the area of different areas of objects using non-standard units. The children came up with great ways to measure the area of objects using different resources.

As part of our World Around Us topic, 'Town and Country' we have been exploring our local area. The children discovered famous landmarks that are close to where they live and others from different counties. We found out what rivers and mountains are in our country. The children absolutely loved being historian detectives and discovered what has changed in Randalstown by using old photographs.

Today we celebrated World Book Day, children really enjoyed coming into school for the day dressed as their favourite character from a storybook. Miss Small had great fun trying to figure what each person was dressed up as. The children participated in the annual book swap. Children brought in a book from home that they did not want anymore and swapped it for another one. In p3/4 we have been learning about what a tradional tale is and what features you might find in these types of stories. As part of World Book Day the children pretended to be characters from different traditional tales and took part in role play activities. Miss Small thinks in the future she will definitely see some of us in movies as we are that good at acting.

Well done to our two P3's who were picked by Mr Costello as joint first best dressed on World Book Day in the P3/4 class.

We all had a fantastic day at Shanes Castle outside Antrim as part of our forest fundraiser. During the day we explored the castle surrounding and used it as a backdrop for our setting of our magical traditional tales, coordinated our way around the forest just in time to find Mr Costello and solve the mystery by finding hidden clues and found out how castles were protected and built in a certain way long ago. We even had time to take part in an Easter egg hunt.

Today Louise from Cancer NI came to visit our class and with her help we explored processed and fresh food and how we could make healthier choices about food if we become food detectives. We explored the amount of salt, sugar and fat in different types of food and we also found out the daily recommended amount for our age groups.
